Kelci Malloy

Purdue University in Indianapolis Undergraduate Student, Biomedical Engineering

What are you are studying/what you are interested in studying and/or researching while at Purdue? If you have done internships or other applicable experiences, feel free to include them here.

I’m studying biomedical engineering, with an emphasis on biosignals and instrumentation. For the past two years, I’ve been designing and building an automated system that can perform sequential radiochemical reactions and synthesis for a medical school. Recently, I also had the opportunity to intern at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California where I worked on a wireless network system for environmental sensors inside of the ISS.

What made you want to join the Leading Women Toward Space Careers program?

While I have always had a passion for space exploration, it wasn’t until my NASA internship that I believed I could pursue this dream. I felt that this program would provide the mentorship that I need in getting into the space industry while also helping me build long-lasting relationships with students and mentors. I am also excited to meet more women who are passionate about space careers!

What area would you like to work in after graduation? (What career path, interests, opportunities, etc., would you like to accomplish? What field are you interested in?)

After graduation, I plan to continue on to graduate school and broaden my understanding of electrical sensors and life support systems, both in space suits and human habitation vehicles. I would like to bridge my knowledge of biomedical engineering to the space industry so I can make space flight safer and contribute to the advancement of long duration space flight technology.
